Pet your animals.
Paint your toenails (takes some stretching and near yoga in my case!).
Go for a swim.
Knit.
Do a tutorial for something you don't know (or if you're really anxious, sometimes for something you do to remind yourself of your skill!) I like Code Academy and Khan Academy (I like computers and math but I'm sure there are others).
Take a random walk.
Clean your bookshelves (if you like to read, you'll probably end up reading...I usually do.)

Wow! Way to revive a thread! Awesome!

I've added some to my list of things I do, but I have to say that I WISH that cleaning was one of the things I do. Some day...

Lots of things now I'm on holidays :)

Namely
Hug my dogs
Write (in a blog or here or just an odd word document on my laptop)
Draw
Play music and sing (I keep playing a version Of Monty Python's 'Galaxy Song' lately)
Walk
Drive with very loud music I can sing/ move lots to (lately a lot of Streetlight Manifesto and The Hold Steady)
And read. Always reading something.

I come to all sorts of cheerful sites (like this one) and read until I stop ruminating my problems.
I make tea, light a cigarette and go outside to enjoy them mindfully.
I sleep.
I read all sorts of psychology thingies and see what applies to me.
Introspection.
Go to uni, meet all my friends and learning new stuff never fails to make me feel tons better than sitting in the house and self-pitying.If I don't have classes, I go to the library and study. If I am not in the mood to study, I just observe the people there and imagine their life-stories.
Also, riding the bus. I just love being there, mixed with all the people. I sometimes feel connections with some and it keeps me going.

Bump

Almost exactly 5 years ago I posed this question on here.

I'm repeating it. Or asking you to read the first entry.

I'll add to it from this moment. For now I spend as much time as possible out of doors. I work in an organic garden as much as possible, far more than the once a week I am scheduled to work in it. It brings me peace and joy to watch planted things grow and mature, and then, honestly to eat what has been produced. Nothing better than a salad just cut from the garden.

I recently lost (10 weeks now) my constant companion of the last 18 years and miss him so very much. I find comfort in some of the things he liked, like his favorite pillow, knowing that he got to enjoy one of the first warm days of spring, looking at pictures of him, or of the two of us cuddled together, continuing to grow the catnip I nurtured - and now has practically taken over the back of my deck- and drying it or giving it fresh to the neighbors for their kitties.

I spend time with my friend's now 2 year old son. He rocks my world and of course is as smart as a whip and cute to boot. I'll be spending the weekend with him while his parents are away this coming weekend. We're going to the zoo and the pool. He eats like a 2 year old, which is refreshing and frustrating all at once. He smile lights up my world and he is one of my reasons for continuing to fight for having a life worth living.

I am working at reclaiming some of the things that depression and ed have taken from me. Reading and music, gentle walks in the woods. Yesterday I sat by a lake with my feet in the water and read a book, then played a game of Scrabble with my neighbor.

Sometimes it's the little things, like watching a dragonfly, or seeing the caterpillar of a monarch, or like last night, watching the storm while practicing yoga.

I'd like to reclaim meditation, as my monkey mind makes it difficult for me to concentrate long enough to meditate even though my body knows the routine.

next....

Take a hot shower.
Brew a mug of tea.
Sit out on my front steps and listen to birdcalls.
Journal.
Paint my nails -- I've been really enjoying experimenting w/ different color combos (:
Do a quick "tidying" sweep of my apartment, because I know I feel better in a clean environment.

I paint my nails.
I watch comedy shows on netflix.
I write letters and cards to people I care about.
I walk around my house and admire my lovely things.

Delenda -- I love looking at the things I have in my apartment, too. I have fairy lights and strings of cloth butterflies and some of my collages hung up on my walls, pressed copper cereal bowls and plates that say "Enjoy the little things" in my kitchen, a berry-scented Beanie Baby and a box full of cards with positive saying right by my bedside.. It all makes me so happy to look at and use.

Another thing I do to take care of myself -- brush my hair and wash my face.

I like to get myself little treats, like an eyeshadow,a lip-balm or even a hair conditioner.I used to tell myself I don't deserve it.

I find face masks really relaxing and a great way to treat myself.

Pretty much any sort of pampering beauty products, like oils for my hair, moisturizers that smell nice, nail polish, helps me have a more gentle and positive attitude towards myself.

I also love to watch makeup and hair tutorials on Youtube :)

Bumping this thread because it is a good one. :)

If I need truly gentle self-care:
[*] ask my boyfriend to wrap me tightly in a blanket
[*] sit next to the fireplace with my laptop and browse the internet
[*] hug my giant octopus (stuffed animal)
[*] cuddle my boyfriend and/or dogs
[*] drink tea or soda and eat snacks
[*] go to a restorative yoga class
[*] listen to relaxing music

When I am feeling energetic, my self-care can be more productive:
[*] declutter / organize an area of my house
[*] read a book
[*] perform hygiene activities (e.g., take a bath, paint my nails, shave my legs - anything that makes me feel clean and pretty).
[*] go to a vinyasa yoga class
[*] lift weights (for bone health)
