Does anyone have any tools or a game plan that helps them with grocery shopping to make it easier for them? I use lists but I think I get anxiety with shopping.

I think the first thing is to understand the layout of your grocery store. Most groceries have fresh foods (fruits/veggies, dairy, meat and meat alternatives, delis, yogurts and dairy-derived substances) on the outside edges of the store; processed food is in the middle, and frozen foods either in the middle or facing one of the outside edges. Knowledge of this is power. Make yourself a list. Think it through. Add or subtract from it, but know that every item you list has a purpose: bread for sandwiches, chicken breast for dinner, et cetera. Organise your list according to the layout of your grocery. Take a deep breathe and go in. Pick up frozen and chilled items last in case you feel like you can't manage it anymore; that way, nothing will spoil from anything left in your cart. Otherwise, pick up what is on your list and only what is on your list. Once you make it to chilled and frozen foods, you are committed, and yay you, because you actually just did something really difficult! Keep breathing and head for the check-out. You don't have to make conversation or interact with the cashier unless you want to. Bag your groceries, take them home, and put them away.

I have a few stores I go to- one is where I get most of the frozen, pantry and also nuts. That trip is usually a bigger one and takes a lot out of me. I try to stock up once a month from there.

I go to a smaller store for fresh produce and other random things. I usually go there weekly- I know I can just run in and out if I need one thing and have the pantry/frozen stuff at home.

For me, staying one step ahead (never having absolutely nothing I can cook) is the key. That way I can go grocery shopping when I'm feeling I can handle it instead of running out of food, being in a complete panic, and having to go to the grocery store in order to not use ed symptoms.

Now sometimes that means I'm eating stir fry for breakfast but at least I'm eating, haha.
