Israeli ad agency McCann Digital has launched a new "Get an Ugly Girlfriend" campaign for Bacardi's fruity Breezers that suggests women -- attractive women -- accessorize themselves with an "ugly girlfriend" to make themselves look better at the pool, the mall and other social situations this summer. The campaign is sexist, sizeist and even disabilist. For more on the campaign and the images it uses, read here.

This ad is a perfect example of how women are pitted against each other in a kind of divide-and-conquer strategy. Tell Bacardi what you think of this kind of misogyny here.

It looks like it was designed to create low self-image and insecurity in those who view it.

I submitted a complaint. You were right, the contact form worked with Internet Explorer, but not with Firefox.

The site doesn't seem to exist- I don't know if they've taken it down or if it's my Firefox, but it's not even trying to load

Jesus. The pool party one is clearly emaciated. I am ashamed that I worked out her BMI when I saw her ribs. That is just fucked.

I feel so bad for the women in the ads. I wonder if they know what their image was being used for.

I would be crushed If I was one of them.

How horrible!

I tried to get on it... and it wouldn't load - Muse's page would, but not the actual... then I googled it again... and a few articles said it had been shut down...

rachelr's blog said the same thing...

what addy did you use? I tried the one at the top of the page and it was a no go...

I wonder if it was removed because of many many critical online conversations about it (such as this thread, but definitely not just this thread) made the public think negatively about Bacardi... and of the advertising company that created this horrid bit of propaganda.
