I saw one of their most recent ads on tv the other day, and it's horribly depressing. One of the guys says "I'm going to burgertown. Anybody want anything?" The first girl responds, "do they have the 'Can my butt look any bigger combo?' I'll have that." The second one goes "me too." Then the third girl says, "I'll take a 'my thighs are huge' combo" Then a man chimes in, "and I'll have the 'so bloated I want to sleep for three days meal'."

Pisses. me. off. Clearly labeling some food as bad and some food as good. Also promoting the diet culture, as well as putting food in the category of enemy rather than fuel. That commercial is so wrong on so many levels. Subway won't be getting my business anytime soon!

I haven't seen this commercial. Man, that sucks - I am a sandwich artist...well was - I worked at Subway for all of highschool and still go back on breaks and such...

When I am home, I will talk to my district manager - maybe it won't do anything, but it's important to voice our distaste, right?

while i'm certainly not defending subway, or their method of advertising their product, i think it's important to keep in mind that being effected by an eating disorder changes our view of a lot of foods and advertising and makes us a little more sensitive to such messages.

various organisations have made attempts to educate people on healthy eating, with campaigns such as "sometimes foods" and "always foods", low gi foods, the food pyramid, and low fat foods however the world keeps getting fatter.

it sounds to me that subway is making a somewhat poor attempt to educate their customers, but may just be succeeding in making them feel poorly about themselves.

just my opinion

aimee you don't need to feel bad - everyone has a right to their opinion and big corporations make really poor advertising decisions all the time. if you are comfortable eating their food then that's all that matters. i eat it too - don't worry!

Hmm...sorry to hear about their shitty advertising techniques. :(

I love Subway and I loathe it at the same time. It's insanely triggering for me. When I lost weight for the second time (in 2002, the time that things started to get serious for me), I ate Subway about 3 times a week with nothing on the days in between. I always got a 6" turkey sub on whole wheat bread with just lettuce, tomato and LOTS of black pepper. No cheese, mayo, sauce, etc. of course. With a medium diet Pepsi. I dropped, like, 25 lbs in about a month...so yeah...it makes me nostalgic and is tremendously triggering. I still love the smell of Subway, but I don't eat it anymore because it would just start a binge now... :(
