I was interested to read this short article about a joke being voted the funniest in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival near me. It relates to self-harm and it kinda made me cringe a little for Amy Winehouse I have to say. What do you think? Is this humourous? Or do you think a lot of self harmers will take it the wrong way? (ie when they're annoying they "deserve it")

I just don't find jokes about inflicting harm on oneself or anyone else amusing at all. Back in the 1980's much of the House of Parliament burst into fits of laughter and catcalls and shouted "wife-beating" jokes to one another on being advised that 1 in 10 women were the victims of violence in relationships. That really served to bring to the forefront how humour is used to normalise events and behaviours that are not only harmful, but also reinforce socio-economic orders or expectations. I never want to live through that kind of shit again.

Sorry for the rant...

Don't apologise, rant away! I didn't find the joke at all funny either and that's why I posted it here to see what other's thought.

I find dark humor funny. I don't know if it's because I think it's funny or because it's my way of 'dealing' with the world.
I think in this case people might fond this particular joke funny, not because it has self harm, but because it makes fun of the singer.

I did not find this funny. I didn't get offended by it, as I didn't see it as making fun of SI as much as Amy Winehouse, but I found it tastless.

That was kinda how I saw it, but much as I might not be her biggest fan, I did rather cringe for her, cos it can't be nice for anyone with those sorta issues to hear something like that said about them and then know a whole bunch of thousands of people agreed it was funny as hell to the point it made the news. I mean...ouch.
So yeah, I think tasteless does kinda sum it up, it's a mean joke to make.
