Wow. The things people come up with these days. We are such a thin-obsessed society.

Much love,

Hahahahahahaha.

omg that is just... that's so terrible I have to laugh at it.

I can't believe that. Isn't that why anyone would want to secretly learn a photo editing program if they weren't in graphic design? Either that or remove pimples? Or edit out that guy you don't like who happened to be in the shot?

I have never seen it so blatant.

The eye treats what it sees in photos as reality... as if that's the way it is. The normal everyday camera lens is concave so actually appears to add pounds to any person's figure... by curving the image out slightly. If they were to market this in a way to somehow reverse the lens bulb a little... that would be a lot less insulting and blatant than this silly ad. But that would be a slightly different concept.

Hah. Here I am proposing alternative marketing pitches that would make the company in question look less ridiculous. Oh, good one HP. Good on ya for your truth in advertising. Pathetic truth in advertising. Will HP now market their webcams for use in bathroom stalls to catch people on the loo? No? Too blatant?

No, you know what's wrong with this ad? It makes people insecure about their bodies. They make you feel like you have to hide even in photographs. It gives the illusion of it being okay to alter documentation of yourself to make others think you look different... rather than accepting yourself as you are.

They could have done yet another directions thing for editing out zits. It would have been only a tad less insulting... and still give that make-the-consumer-insecure sting that HP went for with this ad. Argh.

Argh...

...this is encouraging normal people to do the evils that advertisers do to sell products... make image better... because other people's eyes just assume it is unaltered. A little lie.

Argh.

Why can't we just be happy with who we are?

No... why can't these companies understand how this negatively affects the way the public views them and their product?

Argh. Wag of my finger...

World of illusions, images both wonderful and terrible, can't tell which are real, can't tell if it happened or it didn't. Aren't they so much easier to love than real people? Don't they just make it so easy to believe or disbelieve anything you want?

Isn't it monstrous?

Makes me want to smash my camera to pieces.

For real.

I'm tired of people altering me to suit their own needs.

I want to claim myself back.

Guys, professional photographers use 105 mm portrait lenses over 50 mm because it compresses people's features and their customers are happier...I'm not saying that it's right or not but...HP just figured out how to do that with a non-fixed lens on a non-SLR. So...if you've ever had professional photographs taken, it is more than likely the same technique was used...food for thought I guess.

Like that one ad I saw on television with the dude in a body cast, so his friends put his image into a photo from a party he couldn't make.... then make the result into a card and send it to him because they miss him. That's still... telling the story that the product changes how we perceive things... but it doesn't do so in a way that increases insecurity, low self esteem, and tries to trigger you to go buy a product.

That's aggravating! It sort of makes me feel like the pictures of me at my dad's wedding aren't really me, if that makes sense. I'm glad normal cameras aren't like this.
