I've been following this story, but while we are looking to move WBB to a new platform, as long as it is not hosted on an American, ummm, thingy (just exceeded the capacity of my tech-speak) would WBB actually be affected. The general presumption of law is that a jurisdiction cannot enforce its laws across jurisdictional boundaries, so unless there was an actual "presence" (something more than just being able to access it), US laws should not apply.

One of the problems with this act is it's incredibly vague and loose wording. "Thingy" is about right.
Here's a good breakdown of the proposed laws: A Technical Examination of SOPA and Protect IP

From my (somewhat poor) understanding of these laws, what could happen is that American users would no longer be allowed access to the site, and/or American search engines would not display WBB in their returns. I know that WBB is neither hosted, nor registered in America.

a.k.a, the Stop Online Piracy Act and the PRO-IP Act.

I'm afraid I don't understand it well enough to explain it, but this article is helpful:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142 ... lenews_wsj

Wikipedia 'blacked out' today to protest it and there have been lots of protests against GoDaddy and similar sites. What do you think? Is it a good or bad idea?

Edit: just saw the 'Keep Your Eyes Peeled' post- I think this one is a little different as it's about the bill in general rather than just in relation to WBB? All the same, if a mod wants to merge the two, please go ahead. :)

That's cool, sorry.

I only vaguely understand it, but from what I've been told it's a little like trying to get rid of dead flowers by cutting off all the living ones.

Just a FYI- I don't understand much about it, nor do I know what would happen to American users.

BUT

The voting for all of this starts on Jan 24 (just to give people a timeline).

This video helped me to understand it.

It seems quite backwards to me. Do not want.
