To be honest, I think it is a little far-reaching. I mean, cell phones have been getting thinner, TVs too. It is more about convenience and less space to fill your room or pockets...people want everything to be compact. In my eyes it is a stretch to link the two though.

Don't worry. I was thinking the same thing too. Yet we have to remember that we are not the only people here and that not many others are thinking that electronics are insinuating we also have to be thin and beautiful.

It's an electronic gadget, it's not telling us to be thinner.
What's wrong with the iPad being thin? Unless it starts growing lanugo I'm not upset.

I thought the exact same thing... it's not that I believed it was telling the audience to be thin, I don't think you can stretch it that far. It's just that it directly linked thin with beautiful. Such subtle undertones just feed into the societal pressures and beliefs. I did an implicit association test about a week ago and began with classing curvy as 'good' and finished by classing thin as good, skinny - good...
terrible.

i didn't mean it was telling people directly thin is beautiful. i was thinking more in the large scale of the world focusing so much on looks and fixating on the beauty of things. but yeah its just technology not a person. sorry =/

i know what you mean though, like its saying "it is thin, therefore it is beautiful." people arent going to directly go from that "OMG I HAVE TO LOSE WEIGHT!" but i can see that it's just one more tiny building block in societies belief that thin=attractive, aesthetically pleasing
