my therapist gave me a packet to fill out of the first chapter of the dbt workbook, and as i was filling it out, i realized my list is very small, because i can't drive, i don't have many local friends (s/o to dakota, he's fun to hang out with! also liv!)
so here are mine, and i'd like to see what everyone's lists are, if they've done the first chapter of the workbook, or if you haven't, here are two links, one to a page about distraction, and another to a page about self soothing.
my distraction techniques
1) cleaning (my aunt likes this one, lol)
2) write a song
3) recite the serenity prayer
4) write a letter to God (this is my way of praying, because i'm easily distracted and writing it out in letter form helps me to not get distracted as easily)
5) sing
6) go for a walk
7) cook dinner (this one is tricky, of course, because of my ED)
8) paint my nails
9) help someone do something (help my grandma organize her house, help my aunt with her dogs, etc.)
10) hang out with dakota or liv

my self soothing techniques
1) look at pictures of dogs - sight
2) light candles - smell
3) drink tea - taste
4) listen to twenty one pilots (or any other music) - hearing
5) cuddle the dogs - touch
6) lay under blankets - touch
7) listen to welcome to night vale - hearing
8) watch markiplier - sight
9) make coffee - smell
10) drink coffee - taste

my self soothing techniques for in public
1) listen to music - hearing
2) stimming with fingertips (it's an autistic thing) - touch
3) write with a "smen" - smell
4) chew gum - taste
5) look at pictures of markiplier - sight
6) walk by a bakery - smell
7) carry a smooth rock - touch
8) notice surroundings - sight
9) hum - hearing
10) pop a mint - taste
hope this can help, and hope y'all can help me come up with more!
